Kun Khalifat took the lead through Preye Seikorowei in the 40th minute, but Rangers responded before the break through Temitope Folarin’s equaliser in the 27th minute and Waheed Adebayo’s goal just before half-time to turn the game around. Chimobi Igwilo extended the lead in the 66th minute, and although Ayuba Umar pulled one back for Kun Khalifat in the 84th minute, Igwilo completed his brace in stoppage time to seal a 4-2 win for the visitors.
Rangers have now won their last two league matches, having beaten Nasarawa United 2-1 in their rearranged Matchday 3 fixture on September 17 before this victory in Owerri. The champions had opened the season with a 1-1 draw against Katsina United and a suspended fixture against Nasarawa United because of heavy rain, so this run of results marks a clear upturn in form as they build towards their next assignment, against Ranchers Bees on September 23.
For Kun Khalifat, the defeat continues a difficult start to the campaign as the newly promoted side look to establish themselves in the top flight.
