Three wins, three draws and three defeats make Ikorodu one of the league’s most even sides. However, the table is tight: they are level on 12 points with Bendel Insurance, Niger Tornadoes and Katsina United, and only two points separate them from sixth place. Who is the Ikorodu City coach in 2026/27?
Ali Kandil is named as Ikorodu City’s head coach in The Guardian’s 2026/27 NPFL preview, which expects him to keep his possession-based philosophy. He took over in 2025 after Aweroro left for Shooting Stars, having been the club’s assistant coach in 2024/25.
Bright Ozadegbe also features prominently. He spoke for the club after matches in 2025/26 and was described as technical adviser by the News Agency of Nigeria and as head coach by VON, so the exact titles on the bench are not always clear in reports. We have found no report of a change on the bench since. Meanwhile, Kandil said in August 2025 that he wanted the club to aim higher than survival and keep its attacking, build-from-the-back style.
Who have Ikorodu City signed for 2026/27?
Ikorodu City’s reported 2026/27 additions are defender Linus Christopher, who joined from Sunshine Stars on a three-year deal, and Adam Abdulraman from Mahanaim FC. Ikechukwu Junior was also promoted from the youth setup.
In addition, Abayomi Ayodeji extended his contract, while winger Ibrahim Carrick left for Abia Warriors, according to The Guardian’s season preview. Liberian goalkeeper Derrick Julu signed from Watanga FC on a two-year deal in August 2025. The club’s own channels are the best source for any late window business.

The Oga Boys opened with a comeback against Ranchers Bees after going a goal down in the seventh minute. Next came a 2-2 at Abia Warriors, where Ikorodu led twice, followed by a goalless draw with unbeaten Barau FC at home. After a midweek defeat at Bendel Insurance, they then beat defending champions Rangers 2-0 with two free-kicks. According to the NPFL’s own report, that was Ikorodu’s first-ever league win over Rangers.
The rearranged Matchday 2 derby at Sporting Lagos, the first top-flight meeting between the two Lagos clubs, ended 0-0. It was played on 30 September after the fixture was postponed twice; the link above goes to our derby preview. Rivers United then won 2-0 in Port Harcourt through goals from Samson Olasupo and Chinemerem Ugwueze before half-time.
Ikorodu bounced back in style on Matchday 8. Farouk Salami scored in the second minute and Ikechukwu Junior doubled the lead in the 36th as Kwara United were beaten 2-0 at the Mobolaji Johnson Arena. However, the run of home wins did not travel. At Bako Kontagora Stadium in Minna on Matchday 9, Niger Tornadoes scored through Nafiu Obalowu in the first half and Bashir Musa in the 82nd minute. When was Ikorodu City FC founded?
Ikorodu City FC were founded in January 2022 in Lagos State, and are led by club president Sanmi Doherty. They are widely known as the Oga Boys.
The club began life in the Nigeria National League (NNL), the second tier, and won promotion through the NNL play-offs in June 2024. As a result, a club only a few years old reached the top flight, part of a wider wave of privately run Lagos sides that now includes Sporting Lagos and Inter Lagos. In practice, Ikorodu are the senior member of that group, because both of those clubs only reached the NPFL for 2026/27. The club also runs an academy, according to its Wikipedia entry.
Where do Ikorodu City FC play their home games?
Ikorodu City play their home games at the Mobolaji Johnson Arena in Onikan, Lagos Island, also known as Onikan Stadium. It holds about 10,000 people and is shared with other Lagos clubs.
The ground is on Lagos Island, but it has become a fortress for the club. During 2025/26 the Oga Boys went through the first 13 home league games unbeaten, with nine wins and four draws, as VON reported after their win over Niger Tornadoes in February 2026. In 2026/27 they have again held their own there, beating Ranchers Bees and Rangers and drawing with Barau FC.

Ikorodu City finished fourth in 2024/25, their NPFL debut, and fourth again in 2025/26 on 58 points. The second season was far stronger, because they led the table after Matchday 25 and chased a CAF place to the final day.
In February 2026, Joseph Arumala’s two goals beat Niger Tornadoes 2-0 and lifted Ikorodu to the top of the NPFL, as VON reported. However, they finished two points behind Shooting Stars, who took third on 60. Ikorodu City’s key players include Abayomi Ayodeji, Ikechukwu Junior, Aderemi Adeoye and Farouk Salami, who have scored in the wins over Ranchers Bees, Rangers and Kwara United. Joseph Arumala, the 2025/26 Golden Boot winner, is the best-known name from last season.
Arumala scored 14 league goals in 2025/26, but he does not appear among the 2026/27 scorers in the reports we have checked, so his current status is unconfirmed. Instead, the goals have come from a wide group. Dan’Azumi, Ayodeji and Salami scored in the opener, Junior and Adeoye both scored from set-pieces, and Salami and Junior were on target again against Kwara United. Ikorodu City’s closest rivals are the other Lagos clubs, above all Sporting Lagos and Inter Lagos. Their first top-flight meeting with Sporting Lagos was a marquee fixture, though it has not yet produced a goal.
