Sporting Lagos claimed bragging rights in the first-ever top-flight meeting between the two Lagos clubs, beating Inter Lagos 3-0 on Sunday, September 13, 2026, in a comfortable NPFL Matchday 3 derby win.
Sodiq Ayoade gave Sporting Lagos an early lead in the seventh minute, and Aliyu Baba doubled the advantage in the 59th minute before Valentine Ogwu completed the scoring deep into stoppage time to round off a dominant afternoon for the visitors.
Ayoade’s early strike gave Sporting Lagos the perfect start in the city’s newest top-flight derby, and although Inter Lagos pushed to find a way back into the game, it was Sporting Lagos who struck next when Baba’s 59th-minute finish put the result out of reach. Ogwu’s late goal in stoppage time completed the scoring and put a convincing gloss on the scoreline.
The result gives Sporting Lagos an important boost in the battle for Lagos bragging rights and continues a solid start to life in the NPFL for the newly promoted side, who now have a signature early-season win to point to.
Inter Lagos, meanwhile, suffered another setback after their narrow 1-0 defeat to league leaders Doma United on Matchday 2, leaving the club still searching for their first points of the season and with plenty to address before Matchday 4.
