Inter Lagos lost their season opener 2-1 away to Shooting Stars, while Doma United won on the opening weekend — meaning this fixture already carries early-season weight for both sides as they look to establish themselves in the top flight.
Not every club in action last season is playing this weekend. Sporting Lagos vs Ikorodu City, Katsina United vs Rivers United, Enyimba vs Shooting Stars and Warri Wolves vs Enugu Rangers have all been postponed. The reason is straightforward: reigning champions Rangers International, Rivers United and Shooting Stars are all committed to continental football in the CAF Champions League and CAF Confederation Cup this window, and their domestic fixtures have moved to accommodate that.

Kano Pillars host Niger Tornadoes at the Sani Abacha Stadium off the back of a 2-2 draw with Kwara United on the opening weekend, and they’ll want a first win on the board. Meanwhile, Nasarawa United face a tough ask against Bendel Insurance after a 3-1 opening defeat to Barau FC. However, Barau themselves face a different kind of test away at Kun Khalifat, having opened their campaign with a win.
