Semi Ajayi was the stand-out. The Super Eagles defender opened the scoring after 17 minutes of Hull’s first top-flight game since 2017. Nobel Mendy added a second before half-time, and Manchester United never recovered.
Michael Kayode also scored, making it 3-0 in Brentford’s win over Tottenham on 49 minutes. Two promoted sides won and one lost. Hull and Ipswich won their openers, while Coventry lost 3-0 at Arsenal on the Friday night.
