NPFL Table After Matchday 2: Doma United Set Early Pace

Two rounds into the 2026/27 Nigeria Premier Football League season, the NPFL table already has a clear early pace-setter. Doma United sit top with two wins from two, while several bigger names are still finding their feet.

NPFL Table After Matchday 2

Here’s how things stand, with a handful of clubs still owed a game in hand because of CAF-related postponements:

  • 1. Doma United — P2, GD +3, 6 pts
  • 2. Barau — P2, GD +2, 4 pts
  • 3. Kano Pillars — P2, GD +1, 4 pts
  • 4. Ikorodu City — P1, GD +2, 3 pts
  • 5. Rivers United — P1, GD +2, 3 pts
  • 6. Shooting Stars — P1, GD +1, 3 pts
  • 7. Niger Tornadoes — P2, GD 0, 3 pts
  • 8. Bendel Insurance — P2, GD 0, 3 pts
  • 9. Nasarawa United — P2, GD -1, 3 pts
  • 10. Plateau United — P2, GD -1, 3 pts

Doma United Lead the Way

Doma United are the early story of the season. Two wins from two games, including a 2-0 victory over Sporting Lagos at the Pantami Stadium in Gombe, have them top of the NPFL table with a game in hand still to come for several rivals. As a result, they’re the club everyone else in the chasing pack is measuring themselves against.

Barau are close behind and still unbeaten, backing up their opening-day 3-1 win over Nasarawa United with another strong result. Kano Pillars round out the top three after a 3-2 win over Niger Tornadoes, a match that swung on a late flurry of goals in Kaduna.

The Chasing Pack — Games in Hand Matter

What makes this table interesting so early is how many clubs sit just outside the top three despite playing only one match. Rivers United and Shooting Stars are both unbeaten from a single game, and a win in their game in hand would put either club level on points with the league leaders. Ikorodu City are in the same position after an impressive 3-1 opening-weekend win over Ranchers Bees.

Meanwhile, defending champions Rangers International find themselves further down the table than expected after a 1-1 draw with Katsina United on the opening day. That said, it’s early enough in the season that one slow start won’t define their campaign.

Struggling to Get Going

At the bottom, Sporting Lagos, Inter Lagos and Ranchers Bees are all still searching for their first point of the campaign. Enyimba’s defeat to Niger Tornadoes on the opening weekend has also left last season’s continental representatives with work to do, particularly with a CAF Confederation Cup fixture also on their schedule this month.

Our editorial team will keep updating this table as fixtures are completed, including the outstanding Abia Warriors vs Kun Khalifat minutes carried over from a weather-abandoned match.
