FIFA clears Arthur Okonkwo to play for Nigeria as Super Eagles goalkeeping battle intensifies
The England-born, Wrexham shot-stopper is now eligible to wear the green and white
FIFA has confirmed that Arthur Okonkwo, born in England to Nigerian parents, is eligible to represent Nigeria at senior level.
The 6’6″ goalkeeper came through the Arsenal academy and represented England at youth level before a senior Three Lions call-up failed to materialise.
His switch instantly reshapes Eric Chelle’s goalkeeping options, which had revolved around Stanley Nwabali, Maduka Okoye and Francis Uzoho.
Okonkwo is expected to receive his maiden Super Eagles call-up when the squad reconvenes.

Victor Osimhen’s agent spotted in Madrid amid Atletico Madrid interest
Galatasaray have already rejected a nine-figure bid for the Super Eagles striker
Victor Osimhen’s agent George Gardi travelled to Madrid this week for talks reportedly linked to Atletico Madrid’s search for fresh attacking options.
Galatasaray have rejected a €120 million offer for the Nigerian forward, with club president Dursun Ozbek said to want closer to €150 million before sanctioning a sale.
Despite the interest from Atletico, PSG, Bayern Munich and Juventus, Osimhen and Galatasaray both maintain his immediate future is in Istanbul.
The 27-year-old recently met manager Okan Buruk to discuss the club’s plans for next season.
