Africa Makes World Cup History With 10 Teams
Did you know? Africa is represented by a record 10 nations at the 2026 FIFA World Cup — the most ever by a single confederation.
Thanks to FIFA’s expansion of the tournament from 32 to 48 teams, Africa was allocated 10 slots, doubling its previous quota.
Algeria, Cape Verde, Ivory Coast, DR Congo, Egypt, Ghana, Morocco, Senegal, South Africa and Tunisia are all competing.
This historic milestone comes just four years after Morocco became the first African nation to reach a World Cup semi-final at Qatar 2022.

The prize fund for this tournament is a record-breaking $727 million, with the winning nation taking home $50 million.
With 16 host cities across three countries, the 2026 World Cup is the largest and most ambitious in the history of the tournament.
