Club history
El‑Kanemi Warriors FC, from Maiduguri in Borno State, were founded in 1986 and quickly gained respect as a northern powerhouse. Named after the historic Kanem‑Bornu Empire, the Warriors built a strong identity around resilience and physical, direct football. They tasted major success in the early 1990s, winning the Nigerian FA Cup twice and competing on the continent. Over the years, El‑Kanemi became known as one of the toughest sides to face in the far North‑East, with the Maiduguri home crowd creating a hostile atmosphere for visiting teams. Security challenges in the region forced the club to relocate home games for several seasons, but the Warriors continued to compete and later returned to Borno. After spells between the NPFL and the Nigeria National League, El‑Kanemi are again part of the top‑flight conversation, carrying the pride of an entire region and inspiring young players from the North‑East.
